Woman of Distinction Award
The purpose of this annual award is to recognize a woman of distinction who is an inspiration to the world and who has shown leadership in the struggle for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The honoree will be:
- A leader of distinction and role model from a developing country,
- An advocate and public speaker who can address the year’s priority theme of the CSW,
- An activist who will benefit from participation in the NGO CSW Forum, including Consultation Day
- A leader who can make a difference when she returns home
The award is formally presented at the NGO CSW Forum Reception.

2013 Recipients
Two women are the recipients of the 2013 Woman of Distinction Award: Bineta Diop, Founder and President of Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS), and Tawakkol Karman, the Yemeni political activist who shared the Nobel Peace Prize with two other female activists in 2011.
