Internship Opportunities

New York Office, 2012-2013 NGO/CSW/NY hires interns for:
  • Summer Internship (June – August 2012)
  • Academic Year Internship (September 2012 – June 2013)
  • NGO CSW Forum Internship (December 2012 – March 2013)
About the organization The NGO Committee on the Status of Women, New York is a coalition of nearly 100 national and international non-governmental organizations that seeks to promote economic, political, social and cultural equality for girls and women of all ages. Founded in 1972, the NGO/CSW/NY partners with United Nations agencies such as UN Women and works in coordination with the UN Commission on the Status of Women. The NGO/CSW/NY organizes events for women ambassadors to the UN, the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the international NGO community. Internship Details The NGO/CSW/NY requires its interns be available to work for a minimum of 12-15 hours per week (2-3 days) during the academic year and full time (minimum 30 hours per week) during the summer and UN Commission on the Status of Women session (4-15 March, 2013). Requirements for Internship:
  • At least two years of undergraduate experience (however, the most successful candidates in the past have been enrolled in or have complete graduate study)
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Must be well organized, professional and collaborative
  • Must be comfortable taking initiative and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in Mac and PC Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Background in fields of Journalism, Social Sciences, Law, Public Policy, International Relations, Marketing, Communications, Business or related disciplines preferred
  • 1 year commitment strongly preferred for summer interns (summer + academic year)
Administrative Internship: The Administrative Intern will be responsible for maintaining office and electronic records, monitoring supply levels in the office and monitoring computer software updates.  This intern will be expected to assist the Office Coordinator, Bookkeeper and Treasurer when necessary.
  • Organizational skills are a must
  • Experience with archiving records (paper and electronic)
  • Knowledge of Quickbooks is a plus
  • Ability to handle office supply orders
  • Comfortable with updating office computer programs
  New Media and Communication Internship: The New Media and Communication Intern will be responsible for website updates, using WordPress, monthly newsletter, taking minutes at meetings and creating flyers and other promotional materials.  This intern will collaborate with and support the organization’s media working group.
  • Proficiency in WordPress, Facebook, Twitter and other social media programs
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Comfort collaborating both remotely and in an office environment
  • Ability to learn new programs and processes quickly and thoroughly
  • Knowledge of MailChimp newsletter program and html a plus
