On 8 March 2012, the President of the UN General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon, proposed the convening of a UN World Conference on Women in 2015. The following is a progress report by the NGO/CSW/NY Enquiry Panel established by the NGO/CSW/NY in April 2012.

The NGO CSW/NY hosted a full house at the Church Center for the United Nations on 9 July 2012 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the CEDAW Committee. NGO CSW/NY Chair Soon-Young Yoon welcomed guests, noting that the CEDAW Committee has brought hope to the world’s women.

On 9 July 2012, CEDAW 30 was held at the United Nation’s headquarters in New York. It was a fine celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Committee on the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) commencing with a morning program and interactive panel discussion entitled, “Focusing on Women’s Political Participation and Leadership- In Pursuit of Equality.” The session was moderated by Ivan Simonovic, Assistant Secretary-General, New York Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
