NGO CSW/NY Reception: 30th Anniversary of the CEDAW Committee
The NGO CSW/NY hosted a full house at the Church Center for the United Nations on 9 July 2012 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the CEDAW Committee. NGO CSW/NY Chair Soon-Young Yoon welcomed guests, noting that the CEDAW Committee has brought hope to the world’s women. Shanthi Dairiam, founder and current director of International Women’s Rights Action Watch – Asia Pacific, praised the CEDAW Committee’s commitment to empowering and protecting women and providing a platform for their stories to be heard. The standing-room only crowd then had the privilege to hear from the CEDAW Committee chair, Silvia Pimentel, who praised the work of NGOs and expressed her appreciation for their support throughout the years.
